A Painting a Day #11 Summer Strawberries

Summer Strawberries

Oil
6" x 6"

Fresh strawberries in a vintage Buffaloware berry bowl.
I love using vintage dish towels with stripes!

I use hardboard panels that I gesso myself and then tone with either yellow oxide or
Raw Sienna acrylic. The golden tones show through the thinner areas of paint
and add a warm dimension. I've tried other colors like gray, burnt sienna or black
(definately never white) but didn't like the results.

A Painting a Day #10 Salt Shaker & Limes

Salt Shaker & Limes
(c) J.Bellinger '18
Oil
6" x 6"

Available $325

The second in a series using vintage salt & pepper shakers.
I like working in series especially when using familiar objects.
I have many of these little red paring knives which get more use than
 all of my kitchen knives.
The red/green/white color design feels very Italian!

I've saved this box from Vincent Van Gogh note cards because "Almond Blossoms Blooming" is one of my favorite Van Gogh paintings. I just love that shade of blue!
It makes for a lively little set up with a lemon perched on top.

I have my great grandmother's set of Riviera pattern by Homer Laughlin. These dishes were
typically given as "Premiums" in laundry soap boxes in the early 1940's.

Blueberries are a favorite of mine to paint. getting that grayish blue color is key.

Painting a Day #3 Olive Oil in Mason Jar

Olive Oil in Mason Jar
(c) J. Bellinger '18

A simple study of light & reflections.
The challenge was getting an indication of the words on the glass jar while
the paint was wet adding to the looseness of the brushstrokes.

Painting a Day #2 Satsuma Reflections

Satsuma Reflections

(c) J.Bellinger '18
Oil
6" x 6"

Available: $325

I love painting reflections on a glass surface, the lights generally reflect darker and the darks reflect lighter...same with reflections on water. It's one of those things I love about painting.  You just need to trust your eye to know how to mix a color that you are seeing.

Jennifer Bellinger "A Painting a Day" #1

Lemon with Blue Knife
Oil
6" x 6"

Available:  $325

I'm back at it with A Painting a Day....well, hopefully at least 3X a week as my schedule allows.

I have missed the discipline of completing a small painting in a day. My last post was in 2012 and during the interim a lot has transpired.  2012-2016 I had a beautiful gallery with space for my easel to paint in downtown Ketchum.  I represented 5 nationally known bronze sculptors and while I loved having the gallery I wasn't getting much of my own painting done.

I look forward to keeping my blog up to date and check out what other artists are up to.

Thanks for visiting!
