" Lemons III "
Oil
6" x 6"
I had fun arranging this still life...the challenge was the fabric. I love this fabric and wanted to include several of the rose colored blossoms. So, that meant that the entire plate needed to be in the composition. Now to balance it all. I didn't like 3 lemons, because of the 3 blossoms, so it was 2 lemons and a very prominent cast shadow on the plate to balance the two lemons. I think it works. Hope you like it, too.

The fabric and the composition rock! Great color.

Thanks Mary,
You are so kind to have visited and left comments of so many of my paintings! I am a fabric lover, grew up sewing with my grandmother. She's the one who inspired my art, let me get into all her paints and make a mess! Couple of years ago I was designing handbags and have a terrific stash of designer samples.

the lemons are just perfect, very balanced composition but the star of this painting is the fabric...it's taken an ordinary still life to extraordinary, just beautiful!!

I don't know why I love your lemon paintings so much, but I do. I can almost smell them.
I think the three roses balance the lemons more than the shadow. My eye goes all over this one. but it is still very relaxing.

Christine & Frank,
I appreciate your comments...very encouraging. Painting is such a solo occupation and interaction with other artists via our blogs is wonderful. Design/composition is my main interest. Maybe it's the 30 years I did batik on silk where mistakes couldn't be undone, you had to get it right from the get go.
