"Persimmons on Check Plate"
Oil
6" x 6"
I have been looking for persimmons for a while, they've been over ripe until I saw these yesterday, such intense coloring. If they are still in good shape tomorrow I'll attempt another view. Now to try a recipe, Joy of Cooking has a Persimmon pudding that sounds devine. I have never eaten a persimmon!

After viewing Carol Marine's persimmons I've been on the lookout for some nice ones to paint. I don't even know what they are, actually. Fruit? Vegetable? Anyway, the ones at the market tonight were kind of beat op looking and for the price, I want pretty ones ;)

Hi Mary, It took me awhile of checking to find some good looking ones. I learned that they are ripe and ready when they look soft and ugly! I made some persimmon cake. Loved the flavor, but it leaves a strange pucker-like feeling in your mouth. Maybe it wasn't the best variety to use. I know there are many. Some say the more square shaped ones taste best.
