" Little Limes II "
Oil
6" x 6"
Beautiful little limes in a vintage Buffalo China bowl. The fabric is a Peruvian woven stripe..I love these colorful stripes. I use it often in my still life paintings.

Jennifer,
I REALLY like this! Wonderful use of color, great shadow and light. Just perfect! Wow, and it's even sold. How good does it get?

Thanks Marsha,
Yes, I find with limes there needs to be a bit more going on in the composition than when I use lemons or other fruit, so the colorful stripes bring it all to life. Thanks for visiting my bog.

Jennifer, you do the most amazing work with fabrics - I just love your stripes!

I aspire to do fabric as well as you do. Love your cropping too.

Thanks, Mary for the kind comments. I find patterned or striped fabric fun and easy. Solid colored fabric is harder. While I paint the shapes of the colors I am seeing, the quick subtle blending on solid color is harder to pull off. Simplifying what I am seeing is another key. Layering from thin to thick adds to the illusion, too.I also wipe off areas of colors as a way to get a feeling of detail.

Thanks, Terry.
I wish I had a huge piece of this striped fabric..it's woven and the colors so rich. Stipes are wonderful to compose with. You bend them and they lead the eye. Reminds me of when I did an oil pastel of zebras. It was so hard to keep the colors clean and separate. Little bits of black or white would keep creeping in. I swore never to do zebras in that medium again.
